Gained 40 lbs of Muscle
Written on: November 30, 2005
As a matter of necessity, I decided to hit the gym because I was sick of being a skinny kid in high school. Well, I didn't hit the gym immediately, I had a gym phobia along with a friend, so I started out by lifting in my basement with him. After about three months, we decided to go to a gym as a gym has a lot more equipment than we had available. Like most of everyone else who begins their quest to put on muscle mass, we didn't know what we were doing. We just went to the gym about 5 days a week, trained each muscle group, and consumed our protein shakes. Fortunately you don't need to do everything correctly to notice change. Within a years time, I definitely had made noticable progress. People began to make comments which was great, which only fueled me more to continue.
In the course of three years I was able to add around 40 pounds of muscle mass. I could have added more if I knew what I was doing, but I think it's still good progress. I started out not even being able to bench 135 pounds, and now I can hit 300 lbs. 120 lb dumbbells on flat, 145 lbs on preacher curls with ezcurlbar, 420 lb deadlift, and 290 lb squat.
The key to my success is consistency. I work out at around 4 to 5 times a week, and I've never skipped more than 2 weeks (for vacation purposes). My diet has lacked a little bit, my number one problem is not eating enough. But, I've been able to make quite a change and I only plan to further my progress. I'm currently 185 lbs, and I started at 140 lbs or so.
